Job Summary

This role supports Community Services and Rehabilitation Services, providing vision rehabilitation support in a classroom setting at VLR offices and in clients’ homes. You’ll instruct older adults and working-age clients (18 through retirement) on assistive technology and accessible tools that support daily living, education, and employment. Currently, the position is part-time. But the possibility of becoming full-time in the future exists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualized and small-group assistive technology instruction, adapting methods to different abilities and learning styles.
  • Evaluate learner progress, identify barriers to learning, and adjust instruction to support goal attainment.
  • Plan and provide rehabilitation instruction aligned with VLR curriculum, using motivational techniques and collaborative teaching as needed.
  • Maintain and organize training spaces, equipment, and supplies; ensure assistive technology is used safely and effectively.
  • Build effective working relationships with clients, family members, and caregivers.
  • Communicate client progress and learning needs to interdisciplinary team members and help develop alternative strategies when needed.
  • Review and improve training protocols and curriculum to stay current with best practices.
  • Complete documentation and monthly status reports.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Vision Rehabilitation, Vision Studies, Education, Occupational Therapy, Counseling, Social Work, Teacher of the Visually Impaired, or related field.
  • Ability to meet Minnesota State Services for the Blind Standards for Assistive Technology Instructors.
  • Eligible for or able to obtain certification in Freedom Scientific low-vision/blindness software solutions (e.g., JAWS, Fusion, ZoomText).
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality.
  • Ability to travel and manage travel arrangements independently within the metro area.
  • Comfort working independently and as part of a team; strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to VLR’s mission to provide services, skills, and support for people with vision loss.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACREP CATIS (Certified Assistive Technology Instructional Specialist for Individuals with Visual Impairments) or comparable certification.
  • Experience working with people with visual impairments.
  • Competency with iOS VoiceOver, Android TalkBack, NVDA, Microsoft Office, Google Suite/Workspace, and a variety of access technologies used at work, school, transit, and in the home.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural setting, including with hard-of-hearing, deaf, visually impaired, blind, or deafblind individuals and clients who are recent immigrants.

Work Environment

  • Instruction takes place at VLR offices (classroom setting) and in clients’ homes.
  • Normal office environment; normal office equipment.
  • Guide dogs may be present in the office.

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of our non-profit organization. This role is responsible for day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, and general ledger maintenance, while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate transactions in support of program and operational needs
  • Process vendor payments and maintain positive relationships with external partners
  • Administer payroll and maintain the time and attendance system, ensuring compliance with internal policies and applicable labor regulations
  • Maintain the general ledger and prepare journal entries to support accurate financial reporting
  • Assist with preparation and review of tax filings and ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations
  • Perform bank reconciliations and reconcile balance sheet accounts
  • Support the month-end closing process and assist with financial reporting
  • Develop, update, and maintain standard operating procedures as needed
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with accounting software preferred

DeafBlind Services Minnesota

DeafBlind Services Minnesota

DeafBlind Services Minnesota advances the independence of children and adults with combined hearing and vision loss.

Purpose:

  • Provide support services that assist DeafBlind Youth in achieving their optimum level of independence and self-sufficiency
  • Provide in-home and / or community-based instruction

Key Result Areas: 

The primary accountabilities for the position include:

  1. Assist DeafBlind Youth in achieving independence and self-sufficiency
  • Responsible for conducting one on one intervention in the home and/or community to provide clear and consistent sensory information to youth age’s birth through 21 whom are both deaf and blind.
  • Facilitate language development and other identified needs: Provide clear and consistent communicated information to youth with dual sensory impairments.
  • Facilitate the development of both expressive and receptive communication
  • Conduct interventions to enable the youth’s participation alone and with peers/adults in activities and routines of the home and/or community, which may include learning through the use of natural routines and activities such as eating, bathing, playing, toileting etc.
  • Works cooperatively with parents; discusses and models intervention and communication techniques to enable better and more frequent parent and child interactions.
  • Accompany, support and supervise students during community based instruction.
  • Facilitate interaction with other youth and community members.
  • Serve on a youth’s education team if requested.
  1. Reporting and Administration
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals to integrate and document recommendations of the IEP/IFSP team.
  • Participate in the preparation of individual plans; data and prepare progress reports as required
  • Participate in required meetings
  • Attend and complete required training courses

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands may vary by client, and may require the ability to regularly walk, stoop, bend, reach overhead
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent math and reading skills of a high school graduate
  • Prior experience working with children with multiple special needs
  • ASL fluency required in some positions, Intervener certification desirable
  • Valid driver’s license with required insurance coverage. Ability to travel to and from youth’s home, and to transport youth in the community.
